Battle Angel Alita is the English title of the manga "Gunnm" done Yukito Kishiro in the early 1990's. It features a cyborg named Alita (Gally in the Japanese version) and her voyage of self-discovery in a post-apocalyptic world. The manga series was made into a movie; the considerably shorter scope limited the release's popularity.
